Spokane, Washington - As the racing season hits it's mid-season stride the
Inland Northwest Blood Center of Spokane, WA and Coeur D'Alene, ID are having
their once-a-year blood drive, Wednesday June 29th-Friday July 1st. This years
theme of Race in to Give Blood will look to draw a crowd of motorsports
enthusiasts and those new to racing and will have several Northwest racecars on
display.
At the Spokane location, on North Division Street, the #36 Washington Midget
Racing Association (WMRA) Speed Sport Report, Budweiser, and Pepsi sponsored
midget-style racecar will be on hand with 2001 WMRA Rookie of the Year winner,
Tony Villelli. "This is a terrific opportunity for the racing community to give
something back, but also provides us with a platform to showcase our cars to a
new audience. The part of racing that we never hope for is a case where we need
to get blood, but we realize the potential is there. At least in this way we can
feel like we are doing our part," said Villelli.
Also on hand will be current Stateline Sprint Car Rookie of the Year leader,
Tony Berry as well as co-host of the weekly radio show on the Speed Sport
Report, Ken Spatz. "I've always felt a responsibility to be civically minded
because of all the opportunities that we get as racers. This is a terrific way
to not only give back, but hopefully draw some fans in to the location and
encourage them to give to this great cause as well," commented Berry.
At the Coeur D'Alene, ID location there will be the #28 Inland Northwest Super
Stock Association (INSSA) Late Model driven by Spokane's Ross Cooper. Cooper and
the Water Garden's by Ben late model currently sit in the top-15 in INSSA points
after four races on the season. "It's a great thing that the Inland Northwest
Blood Center does for the community and I appreciate the opportunity to help out
in this manner," said Cooper.
This annual event is aimed at making sure blood products are available during
the busy Fourth of July holiday and early days of summer. Donations tend to drop
as donors get busy with summer activities. High schools and colleges are also
out of session, the largest area from which the region?s blood supply is
provided. Further complicating matters, the usage of blood in local hospitals
has a potential to increase during the summer months as people are more active.
INBC's goal is to have over 800 blood donors attend this fun yet lifesaving
event. The Inland Northwest Blood Center is a 501(c) (3), not-for-profit
community service organization.
The Race in to Give Blood Community Blood-drive will end this Friday. Be sure to
stop by and check out the racecars, say hello to friends, and donate to this
great cause!
