POST
FALLS, IDAHO – May 27, 2007 – Multi champion and race winner
Rick Brown made an on track statement that he was the fastest driver
at Stateline Speedway, setting a new track record, when he entered
his first Inland Northwest Sprint Car race two weeks ago. Brown
returned to support his previous appearance, annihilating his own
track record and dominating the series main event Saturday night.
The racing veteran, of Eugene, Oregon, blistered a new track record
of 11.893 seconds, nearly three tenths faster than his own record of
12.1. In the main event Brown tracked down front-runners, Justin
Popple and Mike Fought both dash winners, to take the lead and the
win after sliding to the front.
Popple finished second, Fought third. Wes Helgeson and Tony Berry
rounded out the top five.
Accidents and mechanical problems hampered finishes for the rest of
the field.
Outlaw Compact series regulars Jon VanGesen and Eric Angeledes
contested an event long duel. In the end though, fast time setter
Renny Marose of Puyallup, Washington was the big winner.
VanGesen edged out Angeledes in the dash passing him on the last lap
coming to the checkers. In the main event with Marose in third the
two ran side by side for the lead until lapped traffic came into
play.
Exiting turn four VanGesen and Angeledes made contact passing a
lapped car. The drivers’ fenders locked together causing them to
slow. Marose powered by on the outside to take the lead and the win.
VanGesen rallied to finish second followed by local driver Rich
Hatton, Andrew McKee and and Outlaw Compact driver Drew Harthorn.
The Oulaw Compacts return in August for the Idaho 200 weekend.
Nathan Fleury won the A heat and main event over Randy Lasswell,
Scott Perry and Patrick Banks. Lasswell contented for the lead but
spun on the backstretch in the closing laps allowing Fleury to
capture the win and take the lead in the point standings after two
races.
Chris Crain won the dash. Keith Williams the B heat.
